Why You Should Recognized What Causes Acne Before You Can Deal With It Effectively
To effectively deal with an outbreak of acne you need to know what causes acne. It’s a rare individual who does not suffer at least one outbreak. You can only prevent acne and care for future outbreaks properly after you fully understand what causes acne.
Sometimes pores in your skin have a hair follicle and some will not have hair follicles. And, just under the skin are sebaceous glands that manufacture sebum, or skin oil, that helps keep the skin flexible. The pore is the channel through which the sebum reaches the surface to lubricate the skin.
What Does This Have to Do With Acne?
Your pores can become blocked causing sebum to accumulate and enlarge the pore. And bacteria can begin to multiple producing an infection. It generally displays itself as a blackhead or perhaps a whitehead. The skin around this infection can become inflamed and become red.
This whole process begins some days before you are able to notice it. After a number of days the infected pore has become so inflamed and enlarged that you spot a brand new pimple.
What Causes Acne?
What has changed to all of a sudden cause these pimples?
There is really a reason that acne starts at some stage in adolescence as your body shows signs of maturity. Part of the maturing process calls for the release of hormones like testosterone. Testosterone is released in both young men and women. These hormones represent a new stimulus that numerous organs all over the body must adjust to. And, it’s the sebaceous glands just under the skin that concern us.
These sebaceous glands create a compound called sebum, or skin oil. It enters skin pores and travels to the surface where it helps lubricate the skin, keeping it soft. But, for a while these sebaceous glands do not deal well with the testosterone and become enlarged and start overproducing sebum.
Further hormones are released at any time you are under stress. Maturing and testing your limits during the teenage years is often a major reason for stress. Stress hormones can also affect the sebaceous glands to promote elevated sebum production.
While all this appears pretty bad, time is on your side. Generally in your early twenties you stop developing these outbreaks. Your body, including the sebaceous glands, has gotten use to the new hormones. The manufacture of sebum returns to normal so the outbreaks suddenly stop.
During the adjustment period, your sebaceous glands continue to be enlarged and produce too much sebum. All this sebum ultimately finds it way to your skin. Here it encounters dead skin cells. You skin is always renewing itself and dead skin cells on the surface are lose and may be rubbed off. Anyway, the surplus sebum mixes with the dead skin cells to develop globs which can block the pores.
Here is where the difficulty begins. The glob of dead skin cells and sebum contain bacteria from the surface. It blocks off a pore. As more sebum is produced it begins to back up since the pore’s exit to the surface is blocked. The bacteria love this warm, oily environment and start multiplying. Pretty soon they influence the surrounding skin and cause irritation.
If there is an opening reaching the exterior, this glob can oxidize and become dark, resulting in a blackhead. If the plug is deeper within the pore, the pore could be completely closed off from the exterior air. The contents remain light in color. This is now a whitehead which is often called a pimple or zit.
